Why Lady Justice Law?

HISTORY OF LADY JUSTICE:

We chose Lady Justice because she represents equal treatment, fairness, and justice under the law. She is often seen blindfolded, holding a set of scales and a sword. She personifies the ideal moral force of the judicial system.

 

The symbolism of Lady Justice dates to ancient times. Her concept has ancient roots. Early civilizations had deities and symbols associated with justice. In ancient Egypt, the goddess Ma'at represented truth, balance, and order. Similarly, in ancient Greece, the goddess Themis was associated with divine law and order. The Romans had their own personification of justice, often depicted as Justitia. She carried a double-edged sword, symbolizing the power of reason and justice, and wore a blindfold to represent impartiality. The scales symbolized the weighing of evidence and the fair distribution of justice.

 

The depiction of Lady Justice went through variations during the Middle Ages. Eventually, the blindfold became a common element, emphasizing the idea that justice should be administered impartially, without regard to wealth, power, or status.
